Julie Mayfield

Julie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has been in private practice for over 30 years specializing in working with children, adolescents, adults and families. Julie provides a psychodynamic/insight oriented approach, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Family System Theory to children, adolescents, and adults. Her areas of specialty include depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, attention deficit disorder, and autism spectrum disorder. Julie received her Bachelor’s Degree from California State University Northridge, with a specialty degree in Child Mental Health. She attended graduate school at the University of California, Los Angeles, and received her Masters degree in Social work in 1984. After graduating, she relocated to the Northern Virginia Area. Julie has worked in a variety of clinical settings. Prior to graduate school she worked with children and adolescents in an inpatient psychiatric facility, day treatment/private school and a residential treatment program. Post graduate work has included working with children in foster care, coordinating and implementing children’s therapy groups and providing individual and family therapy to children and adolescents in a private nonprofit day school. Mrs. Mayfield also had the opportunity to live overseas and established an individual practice providing psychotherapy to military families. Upon her return from Europe, she spent several years working in a multi-disciplinary group practice and is currently in private practice. She has extensive experience supervising clinicians and graduate level students in the areas of childhood emotional disorders, cognitive/behavioral therapy, group therapy and play therapy techniques.

Jenni Showalter, LCSW, RPT

Jenni Showalter is Clinical Director of Crossroads Family Counseling Center and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of VA,   a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and EMDR certified. She specializes in supporting preschool, school-aged, and adolescent children struggling to cope with anxiety, depression, recovery from traumatic experiences and those who are exhibiting behavioral challenges at home and school. She also provides parent coaching and interventions to support youth and families adjusting to changing family dynamics in the home.

Jenni is passionate about play therapy, and as a registered play therapist play and expressive arts interventions are foundational to her provision of treatment. With experience as a clinician in both private practice and community mental health, she has additional formal training in other evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CC-CBT and MATCH-ADTC), trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT),  ACRA (Adolescent Community Rehabilitation Approach for co-occurring disorders) and EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). This training allows her to integrate cognitive and dialectical behavior treatment methods into play-based and expressive clinical interventions to best meet clients and their families’ needs and support them in tangibly improving their lives.

In addition to providing therapy services at Crossroads Family Counseling, Jenni has leadership experience as a clinical supervisor and licensure supervisor in community mental health and as an Early Childhood Pre-K school administrator for FCPS. She uses her clinical expertise, knowledge of county resources, and experience with the school system to help parents navigate the complexity of children experiencing mental health symptoms treatment and its impact across multiple environments to ensure holistic, child-centered mental health care.

Jenni completed her Bachelors degree in Psychology from George Mason University in 2009 and graduated with her Master in Social Work (M.S.W.) from George Mason University in 2013. She also provides supervision for social workers working toward their licensure.
