The Heart Leaf Center is pleased to offer opportunities for internships to graduate students working to complete masters level advanced degrees.
The Heart Leaf Center Internship
We are seeking clinical interns who want to work with children, adolescents and families focusing on Play and Expressive therapies. Our philosophy is to teach all aspects of being a member of a clinical team and provide a realistic workplace experience.
Requirements:
● Demonstrate a commitment to providing evidence-based treatments.
● Interested in working with multicultural clients.
● Available to work at least one-two evenings during the week and/or one weekend day. Daytime hours are also available.
● Meet with individual, family and group clients weekly or as otherwise indicated in their treatment plan.
● Maintain clinical record-keeping in electronic health records including diagnosis and treatment planning and progress notes.
● Connect clients to outside resources as necessary.
● Meet weekly with their supervisor.
● Attend monthly staff meetings.
● Attend monthly case consultation meetings.
● Write monthly social media postings – instagram, blog etc.
● Uphold Professional Code of Ethics with clients and colleagues.
Along with training future clinicians, our internship program allows us to offer therapy services to the community at a significantly reduced rate, making clinical services available to clients who might not otherwise readily afford such treatment.
Direct supervision of our clinical interns allows them to build their skills while providing high-quality, cost-effective treatment to clients. All interns are under the direct supervision of our Program Director, Tracey Wilson or another licensed therapist on The Heart Leaf Center team.
If you have questions about the internship program, please contact Sheri Mitschelen at 703-472-1725, Sheri@heartleafcenter.org.
